Why does Reddit not allow bulk delete?
Reddit has never offered one. The likely reason is how the site works: comments are pieces of other people's conversations, and a mass delete leaves threads full of holes.
So the built-in way is manual. Open your profile, find a comment/post, tap the menu, tap Delete, confirm, and repeat.
To see everything, request your data at reddit.com/settings/data-request. Reddit emails you a file with every comment and post you've made. Reddit says it can take up to 30 days.
Why edit a comment before deleting it?
Deleting removes your comment from Reddit. It doesn't remove copies made somewhere else, and Reddit gets copied a lot.
Editing first means any copy made after the edit holds the new text instead of the original. It won't change copies that already exist. But archives, search results and other sites often refresh, and when they do, they pick up your edit rather than what you first wrote.
This works for comments and text posts. Reddit doesn't let you edit a post's title, or a link or image post.
Do deleted Reddit comments still show up elsewhere?
Sometimes. Here's where copies live:
- In the thread itself. A deleted comment shows as [deleted], and replies to it stay up.
- Archive sites. For years, sites like Removeddit and Unddit showed deleted comments by pulling from an archive called Pushshift. Reddit cut off public access to Pushshift, which killed those sites. Other archives still exist.
- Search engines. Google can show a snippet of an old comment until it recrawls the page.
- AI companies. Reddit licenses its content. Whatever was public when they collected it may already be in their data.
You can't pull back copies that already exist. You can stop new ones: overwrite, delete, and do it sooner rather than later.
FAQ
Does deleting my Reddit account delete my comments?
No. Your posts and comments stay up, and your username is removed from them. Delete the content first, then the account.
Can people see who wrote a deleted comment?
Not on Reddit. It shows [deleted] where your username was.
How do I get past the 1,000 limit?
Use your data request file. Every comment in it has a link, so you can open the old ones directly and delete them.
